Information on:

Cold Spring Harbor State Park

The park is comprised of 40 acres of hilly terrain that offer scenic vistas of the Cold Spring Harbor. It features a mixed hardwood forest with notable large oak specimens that measure three feet in diameter, as well as thickets of wild mountain laurel.

The area is ideal for observing spring and fall migrations of a variety of songbirds, and is home to great horned owls and red-tailed hawks. The park serves as the northern trailhead of the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt Trail that extends to Bethpage State Park and eventually the south shore of Nassau County.

Pets are permitted, but must be kept on a leash at all times.

This park has some of the best hiking trails on LI. The overall location is beautiful and it is a great spot to escape for a few hours. The trails are rugged in spots which makes for a fun adventure. There are quite a few people and dogs around but it is not overly crowded. Certain spots on the trail offer peaceful views of the bay too which reminds you that you're still on the island. It's definitely worth the visit!

Really like this tiny park. It's somehow peaceful even with all the traffic of 25A just 50' away. It has such a strong New England feel to it (as does the whole town), which I love. Have come just to sit & watch the harbor & it's quiet activity - from the fisherman & clammers to the seagulls & many swans gliding around. Also great to bring a book & spend a cpl hrs reading.

Steep trail, mostly shaded. Bring your trekking poles, or look for walking sticks by the entrance. Make sure you have tick protection (clothing or spray). Parking lot is tight, but you can also park at nearby library's lower parking lot.

One of the best places on Long Island to go out for a hike! If you plan to visit Long Island and want an authentic north shore experience, or if you are looking for a good place to go on a nature trail this is definitively the place to go!
